WHAT ARE DESICCANTS?

Container desiccants can be described as compounds or agents such as Montmorillonite desiccant and Silica gel packets that are used to create low-humidity environments. They do this by absorbing moisture from the air. Desiccants are typically used for transporting, storing, or maintaining materials and products. They can be used to dry everything, from shoes for the gym to military munitions.

SO, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Desiccants are made to eliminate water contamination from sealed containers or packages.

The package contains water vapor;

The package contains moisture;

Moisture on or on the walls of the packaging

Permeation or leakage can allow moisture to enter the package.

A different combination or type of desiccant is most effective for each issue. A desiccant that works effectively will absorb water vapor from the air and lower the relative humidity until it is no longer possible for water to condense (the "dew point").
